Results of the Special Olympics World Games 2019

Azerbaijani athletes achieved significant results in the athletics, powerlifting, judo, ping pong, badminton, football, handball, basketball, volleyball and swimming competitions at the Special Olympics World Games 2019, Abu-Dhabi.

 POWERLIFTING
Powerlifters accomplished the first medals for our team. Aytaj Samedova was the 1st in the deadlift, the 2nd in the squat, and the 3rd in the bench press. Consequently, her combined award was the silver medal. Araz Fatullayev was the 2nd both in deadlift and bench press, and the 4th in the squat. Combined, he was awarded a silver medal. The other powerlifters gained bronze medals: Amal Zeynalov in the bench press, and Asadulla Mirzayev in the deadlift.

  ATHLETICS
In the prelim F-01, Nigar Mustafayeva was the winner in the 25m run, and the runner-up in the 50m run, whilst Aida Rzayeva was the 3rd in both the distances. Said Rzayev was 3rd in the prelim M-21 100m run. In other prelims, Ariz Pashayev was the 2nd both in the 50m run and standing long jump.

  JUDO
Judoka Elnur Rahmanov was the winner, while Nikita Merkuryev was the 3rd in the 60kg weight category. Farid Sharifov was the runner-up in the 64kg weight category.

 TABLE TENNIS
In doubles, Eyvaz Muradov and Evelina Rodina won the gold medal. In singles, Eyvaz Muradov was the runner-up.

 SWIMMING
Mirgaib Rasulov finished 3rd the Final M06 800m freestyle.

 BADMINTON
Teyfa Musayeva was awarded a gold medal in singles.

Our Olympic team participated in four team-sports. The basketball team had the highest result.

 BASKETBALL
The basketball team won the gold medal in the Unified Male/Mixed Division 6, winning the team of Indonesia in the finals with a score of 26 : 24.

 VOLLEYBALL
The unified male volleyball team was the third in Group A by winning the Indonesian team with a score of 2 : 1.

 HANDBALL
The female handball and football teams just a step away from the medals. Thus, the handball team was the 4th in the strongest Division 1, having lost the decisive game to Norway.

 FOOTBALL
The female team was 4th in the strongest division, being defeated 2 : 1 by Denmark.

Hence, our sports team completed the Special Olympics World Games with 25 medals (6 gold, 10 silver, 9 bronze). The next Special Olympics World Games will be held in 2023 in Berlin, Germany.
