The international event of Special Olympics Leadership Academy in Baku

On 5-8 December 2016, Special Olympics Leadership Academy was held in Baku with the support of International and European-Eurasian Special Olympics committees. Representatives, state and sports figures of more than 40 Eurasian countries took part at the event.

Although, Moscow, Baku and Astana cities were candidates to hold the event, Baku has been chosen as the venue city. The goal is to help Special Olympic leaders gain experience.

December 5

At the official opening ceremony, minister Salim Muslimov of Labour and Social Protection of Azerbaijan Republic mentioned that Azerbaijan has made significant progress in the all kinds of Olympic Games in recent years. Then, head of the sports department of the Ministry of Youth and Sport of Azerbaijan Republic, Olympic champion Farid Mansurov, the UNICEF representative in Azerbaijan Edward Carwardine, the president and CEO of Special Olympics Europe-Eurasia David Evangelista, the president of the Special Olympics Committee Shahin Aliyev noted in their speeches that this humanist movement is appreciated all over the world, and that Azerbaijan is one of the leading countries in this field. Director of the Centre for Strategic Researches of the Political Analyses and Information under the Presidential of Azerbaijan Republic Farhad Mammadov, deputies of Milli Majlis Fazil Mustafa, Muslum Mammadov and other officials attended the meeting as well.

December 6

Minister Salim Muslimov hosted participants of the Academy of Leadership at the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Azerbaijan Republic. The main topic of discussion was the future prospects of mutual cooperation.

December 7

Special Olympics Leadership Academy continued its work. The public attentively listened to the speeches of the director of the Centre for Strategic Researches of the Political Analyses and Information under the Presidential of Azerbaijan Republic Farhad Mammadov and deputy of Milli Majlis, the member of Executive Board of Special Olympics Azerbaijan Muslum Mammadov.
